Gold Beach

Gold Beach:

Gold Beach was originally named Ellensburg  after Ellen Tichenor, the daughter of sea captain William Tichenor who founded the nearby city of Port Orford.  The name was later changed to Gold Beach because miners had found gold in the sands of the mouth of the Rogue River and to lessen confusion between Gold Beach, Oregon (formally Ellensburg) and  Ellensburg, Washington.

As of 2010 census the population of Gold Beach was 2,253.  The surrounding area would bring the population closer to 5,000. Gold Beach is located about 35 miles north of Brookings.

Gold Beach is an outdoor paradise!

Gold Beach is where the Mighty Rogue River meets the Pacific Ocean.   Rogue River's boasts some the best Salmon fishing with its great “springer” Chinook Salmon run to the fall Chinook (King Salmon) and Coho (Silvers) season.  The Rogue River also has a great winter and summer Stealhead runs.  There are several guides in the area and I will be more than happy to put you in touch with them.

Gold Beach also has fantastic ocean fishing.  Ling cod, black cod, snapper, perch, halibut and tuna (just to name a few) can be caught in and beyond the reef just beyond the mouth of the Rogue River.  Crabbing and clamming are also plentiful!

Gold Beach is also home to the Jerry Rogue Jets.  Gold Beach is the gateway to the Wild & Scenic portion of the Rogue River. Departing from Gold Beach by jet boat is the only way to get boat access to the pristine "Wild Section” on the 104-Mile trip.  Jerry Rogue Jets still carry the mail to Agness on the 64-Mile Trip.  Jerry’s Rogue Jets is one of the last true “mail boats” around today.

Gold Beach is a great place to become the adventure you've always wanted to be.  There are several hiking trails, forests to explore, beaches to walk, wildlife to observe and whales to watch.

With Gold Beach being home to the Curry County Fairgrounds it is always busy with a festival to attend, car show to go to, rodeo to watch along with other entertainment. Of course the Curry County Fair is always a blast.

Gold Beach also is a great place to storm watch during the winter season.
